Here’s a quick overview of the “Daniel Fast” Food Guideline.
The following “Daniel Fast” quick guideline was from the Womans World, 3/26/12 issue:
- Load up on unlimited foods:
Fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and plant-based oils are unlimited. Daniel Fasters traditionally avoid any item that lists “yeast” on the label; instead, opt for tortillas, varieties of pita made without yeast, matzo and other unleavened crispbread. - Go all natural:
Stick to unprocessed or very minimally processed options. Avoid additives and preservatives. - Drink only water:
It’s only for 21 days. Experts suggest replacing your morning coffee or tea with a mug of hot water spiked with lemon juice. - Skip the fattening stuff:
While following this approach, avoid all animal products and sweeteners
Herbs, spices, vinegar and lemon/lime juice may be added freely. A daily multivitamin containing B12 is recommended.
After 21 days, use your judgment as you transition back to a more traditional diet; make changes gradually to avoid stomach upset and stick to wholesome options to help maintain weight loss.
Always get your doctor’s okay before trying a new plan.
